There are approximately 2.2% of total population having access to internet. Among them 0.85 Million are Facebook users of which 0.59 million users are male and 0.26 million are female (www.tech.aakarpost.com ). This is the sad reality of Nepal where only 2.2% of total Nepalese people are able to use internet and another sad part is women are far behind than men in terms of internet access.
Facebook has become the most common social media among the internet users. Specially teenagers are found addicted to it. The problem is that they are not using it wisely. Social media can be a strong tool or medium for them to shape their personality, build their career and much more. I have a eighteen years old sister and I usually find her busy in her Facebook clicking 'like' button in her friends' and celebrities' pictures. She has no idea that there are other social media tools which can be very useful for her academics and shaping her career as well. She is just spending her time in unproductive things which I really wish to change. And there might be girls like her in hundreds!
After the 2 weeks training at Code For Nepal I understood the real advantage and usefulness of social media which I want to share with teenagers like my sister and make them realize the real value and usefulness of social media. I want to motivate the young girls to utilize the internet and social media for building their personality, shaping their career and encourage them to showcase their hidden talents, knowledge and experience in a global platform.
To achieve this target we (Me and Christina Nakarmi) are planning to organize a week long digital training to the teenage girls (13-19 years old). Our main objective is to enhance their digital skills by providing knowledge regarding social media and its effective use.
Success doesn't come the easy way. Challenges and problems will definitely come in our way but we are determined to accomplish our work and at least inspire some teenagers to utilize social media for their personal and career growth. Though we are not professionals, we are daring to conduct this training program. We are also expecting some help from our seniors, mentors (Code For Nepal), colleagues and friends to make this training program possible and also successful one.
